On August 30, the First Model Animal Research and Application High Quality Development Seminar of China was held in Ganzhou, co-hosted by the National Key Laboratory of Target Discovery & New Drug Research and Production for Major Diseases in GMU, and the Jiangxi Province Association for Science and Technology (JPAST). The seminar was organized by the Zhanggong District People's Government, Ganzhou, and Gannan Innovation and Translational Medicine Research Institute of GMU.
Deputy Governor of Jiangxi Province People's Government Shi Ke, Deputy Director of the National Science and Technology Infrastructure Platform Center (NSTIPC) Lu Fan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the JPAST Zeng Ping, and Deputy Mayor of Ganzhou People's Government Zou Zhiyu, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Zhang Xiaokang, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of GMU, presided over the opening ceremony.
Shi Ke stressed that model animals are the important support for life science research and the bio-pharmaceutical industry, and their level of development is an important indicator of a country or region's level of pharmaceutical technology research. He expressed the hope that the seminar will conduct in-depth discussions and exchanges around bottleneck technologies and major innovation challenges in the bio-pharmaceutical industry, summarize experience, and build the seminar into an influential brand exchange platform in the industry.
Zhang Xiaokang, on behalf of the organizer of the seminar, extended a warm welcome to the leaders, experts, and guests who attended it. He expressed the gratitude to the co-organizers and supporting units, and expressed the hope that all participants will discuss the key role of model animals in the development of bio-medicine and new models of transformation and application through the exchange of the latest research results, technological applications, and innovative methods, so as to provide a valuable communication platform for promoting technological innovation and related industry development of model animals.
NSTIPC Deputy Director Lu Fan stated in his online speech that model animals are an important infrastructure for innovation in bio-pharmaceutical technology. The NSTIPC will continue to increase its support for experimental animal science, promote the construction and application of model animal resources, and assist in the high-quality development of China's bio-pharmaceutical industry.
Secretary of the Party Committee of the JPAST Zeng Ping said that this seminar had provided a high-level exchange platform for experts, scholars, and enterprises in the field of model animals, and that JPAST will continue to support the development of the bio-pharmaceutical industry, especially in the research and application of model animals, and actively promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrialization.
Zou Zhiyu, Deputy Mayor of Ganzhou People’s Government, said that in recent years, Ganzhou actively promoted the development of the bio-pharmaceutical industry chain, and that this seminar will further deepen cooperation in the field of model animal research, promote the advancement of Ganzhou bio-pharmaceutical industry to a higher level, and contribute to the construction of high-quality development demonstration zones in Ganzhou.
During the opening ceremony, Gannan Innovation and Translational Medicine Research Institute of GMU signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Zhanggong District People's Government, Ganzhou and Henglong Holdings Co., Ltd. for the development of the entire industry chain of Chinese domestic pigs and Zhongtu Group.
After the opening ceremony, He Zhengming, a researcher of the Institute of Experimental Animal Resources of the Chinese Academy of Food and Drug Control, presided over the seminar. Chen Hua, director of the Experimental Animal Center of the Medical Innovation Research Department of the PLA General Hospital, and Fan Chun, director of the Shanghai Experimental Animal Research Center, presided over the round table forum. Some experts and scholars gave reports on major disease genetic modification animal models, new drug development, gene editing large animal models, and standardization of human disease animal models, and discussed topics "Current Status and Future Research and Development Directions of Model Animals" and "Exploration of Model Animal Resource Construction and Application".
It is reported that this seminar attracted more than 200 model animal experts, clinical and research scholars, and representatives of bio-pharmaceutical companies from well-known universities, research institutes, and large tertiary hospitals across China.
