On February 7, 2025, two batch 2020 Pakistani students of GMU—YOUSAF KHAN and MUHAMMAD RAFEEULLAH JAWAAD—exhibited exceptional courage and professionalism at Shanghai Railway Station. Using their specialized first-aid knowledge, they successfully rescued an elderly individual who had suffered a sudden illness, securing precious time for subsequent medical treatment. Their heroic actions garnered widespread attention from Chinese and international media, earning praise from across society.
On March 24, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Shanghai specially invited the two students to attend the Pakistan National Day Reception, where they were presented with certificates of honor. The recognition highlighted their remarkable social responsibility and ethical character, reflecting positively on both their home country and their academic community in China.
Upon returning to GMU campus, the students shared their thoughts. YOUSAF KHAN stated, "As medical students, it is our duty to help others. We are deeply grateful to our university for its guidance and support. We hope to apply our knowledge to assist more people and contribute meaningfully to society." MUHAMMAD RAFEEULLAH JAWAAD added, "Receiving this honor on Pakistan’s National Day is a privilege. We hope our actions will strengthen the friendship between Pakistan and China."
This incident not only showcases the students’ dedication to their studies, but also underscores GMU’s commitment to nurturing global citizens with compassion and integrity.
