On December 14, the second annual conference of the National Key Laboratory for Target Discovery and New Drug Creation of Major Diseases and the 2024 Biomedical Development Conference opened in Ganzhou. During the conference, the editorial department of GMU Academic Journal invited Professor Antonio Vidal Puig, the internationally renowned metabolic basic research scholar, the FMdSci academician, the FRCP academician, the professor of nutrition and metabolism at the University of Cambridge, the deputy director of the MRC of UK, and the chairman of the Physiology and Endocrinology Review Branch of the ERC, to provide suggestions and strategic guidance for the development of GMU Academic Journal.
Professor Antonio Vidal Puig emphasized the importance of setting clear short-term and long-term goals for the journal. Short term goals should focus on improving the academic quality and influence, while long-term goals should strive to build a high-level academic journal cluster that is coordinated with GMU's "Double First-Class" construction, in order to achieve the vision of becoming a world-class, domestically leading, and industry leader. Professor Antonio Vidal Puig advocates that editorial staff of academic journals should actively participate in international academic exchanges, deeply share academic achievements with international peers, obtain cutting-edge information and trend insights in the discipline, establish a more open academic exchange system, and enhance interaction and cooperation with the global academic community. He also pointed out that the editorial department of the journal needs to clarify expectations and define the value to be created, utilize social resources, promote the industrialization of scientific journals, and improve the development ecosystem. Meanwhile, he also encouraged scientists to embody the spirit of scientific inquiry, focusing on dedication to science, rigorous research, in-depth exploration, rational skepticism, and academic democracy, accurately grasping the functions of scientific journals, and effectively utilizing the role of journals and papers in scientific evaluation.
Professor Antonio Vidal Puig's strategic suggestions will significantly enhance the quality and academic influence of the Academic Journal of GMU. By setting clear goals, strengthening academic exchanges, and focusing on value creation, the Journal is expected to make significant progress in the academic community.
