The autumn weather brings a refreshing feeling, and the fragrance of osmanthus flowers fills the air. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, GMU held a grand opening ceremony for the Batch 2024 students at the Huangjin Campus on the morning of September 30, extending a warm welcome to 4,811 freshmen from all over China.
Zhang Xiaokang, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of GMU, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Members of the Party Committee of GMU, including Liao Wei, Ye Junming, Peng Weijie, Sheng Yaohuan, Liao Zhiping, Lai Chuanjing, and Xu Huaping, attended the ceremony and took their seats on the rostrum. Huang Ruizhong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of GMU, presided over the ceremony.
Before the ceremony, a passionate and unique military training singing activity kicked off on the track and field. Students sang red classics, paying tribute to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
With the opening of the ceremony, all teachers and students stood solemnly and sang the national anthem, watching the national flag rising and paying the highest respect to the great motherland.
Zhang Xiaokang firstly extended a warm welcome to all freshmen, paid high respect to the parents and teachers of the freshmen, and expressed heartfelt message to all the freshmen as follows:
First, all freshmen should firmly uphold their ideals and beliefs, and establish the lofty aspiration of serving China heart and soul.
Second, all freshmen should boost moral training level and broaden their mindedness of medical benevolence.
Third, all freshmen should develop a spirit of progress and well study the medical skills.
Zhang Xiaokang encouraged the freshmen to cherish time, study hard, live up to their youth, and achieve their life goals, and expressed the hope that all freshmen should have strict requirements for themselves and move forward courageously in their studies and life, so that their youth can shine brighter through diligence and hard work.
Lai Zhubin Yun, a representative of the Batch 2024 undergraduate freshmen and Class 1A of the Batch 2024 Clinical Medicine Science (General Practice) at the School of General Medicine, Liang Luwen, a representative of the Batch 2024 graduate freshmen and a Master's degree student in Clinical Medicine Science at the School of the First Clinical Medicine Science (SFCMS), Xu Shiyun, a student representative and Class 2 of the Batch 2021 Clinical Medicine Science at the SFCMS, and Ding Yechun, a teacher representative and associate dean of the School of Pharmacy (SP), delivered a speech successively.
The leaders sitting on the rostrum wore the school emblems for the representatives of the freshmen, and all new students wore the emblems on their left chest.
Shen Xinyue, a student from the undergraduate class of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the SP, led all freshmen to recite the "Medical Students’ Oath" together, which the resolute oath resounded throughout the audience.
The opening ceremony came to the end amidst the passionate singing of the school anthem.
People concerned, including the deans, schools’ deputy secretaries, all counselors, freshman class teachers, military training instructors, freshman class assistants, etc. attended the ceremony.
